When the roof under an existing array needs replacing, the panels have to come off, be stored somewhere safe, and go back up once the roofers are finished. It is straightforward work in itself, and it is also entirely avoidable expense, which is exactly why the age of the roof covering is the first thing anyone should look at before putting solar on a house in the first place.
The complication is coordination. Two separate trades, two separate schedules, and a roof that sits open in between them. Sequencing matters, weather matters, and the question of who carries responsibility if something goes wrong at the seam between the two jobs should be settled in writing before either crew arrives, rather than negotiated afterward while your roof is sitting exposed.
The price of this work tracks labor and complexity rather than any published rate. What moves it is the number of modules; the pitch and height of the roof and what access precautions those require; whether the racking and attachment hardware can be reused or has to be replaced; how long the panels have to be stored; whether the electrical scope is a simple reconnection or something more involved; and whether one company handles both trades or two are being coordinated. Ask specifically whether the reinstall includes new flashing and new penetrations, because that single answer changes the number.
Some roofing companies will remove panels. The disconnect and the reconnection are electrical work with warranty implications, so ask specifically who performs that portion and whether they are licensed for it. If the answer comes back vague, that vagueness is your answer.
It can, depending on the terms and on who does the work. Read your workmanship warranty before scheduling anything, and if the original installer is still operating, ask them first. Letting an unauthorized crew handle the array is a common way to lose coverage you already paid for.
